Kia Boasts 3 Vehicles in NADAGuide’s 10 Most Versatile Under $20,000

Each year, NADAGuide names the 10 most versatile cars available for under $20,000 to help car shoppers find fuel-efficient vehicles that are versatile and feature-rich, but also budget-friendly. This year, Kia is proud to have had three vehicles named on this list.

Featured on NADAGuide’s list are the 2012 Kia Rio SX 5-Door, Forte SX, and Kia Soul +.  The Rio SX was honored for being the first non-hybrid and non-luxury vehicle to offer Idle Stop and Go technology, as well as many standard comfort and convenience features.  The Forte SX was also recognized for its comfort and convenience, but what really stood out to NADAGuides was the 2.4-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 173 horsepower, yet still receives up to 32 MPG highway.  Finally, the Kia Soul + impressed the judges by offering class-leading horsepower, fuel efficiency of up to 34 MPG highway, and offering luxurious amenities like a back-up camera, UVO, push-button start, Bluetooth technology, and hill start assist, all with a starting price tag under $18,000.

According to Orth Hedrick, director of product planning, KMA, “Having three of our vehicles named to NADAguides’ ‘Most Versatile 2012 New Cars Under $20K’ list validates how far our brand has come in terms of quality, packaging and features development in such a short period of time. With the presence and eye-catching style of Rio, Forte and Soul, Kia’s complete vehicle line is comprised of a wide breadth of capable offerings at very affordable price points.”

With three vehicles recognized, Kia has more vehicles on the “Most Versatile 2012 New Cars Under $20K” list than any other automaker.

2012 Kia Rio Named One of the Best Cars for Teens

The 2012 Kia Rio was recently named one of the best cars for teens by Vroomgirls.com.  Vroomgirls.com is the first automotive website created by and for women.  The 2012 Rio’s high ratings in fuel efficiency, modern style and low asking price are what Vroomgirls.com recognized when making their decision.

The 2012 Kia Rio tops Vroomgirls.com’s list of best cars for teens in fuel efficiency with an EPA estimated 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway.  The pump isn’t the only place that customers save money when purchasing the 2012 Kia Rio.  The 2012 Rio starts at $14,150, but still comes load with such standard features as a USB compatible stereo, steering wheel controls and air conditioning.  Available built-in navigation is another appealing feature.

Vroomgirls.com explained that safety combined with the 2012 Kia Rio’s redesigned body style played a defining role in their decision making process. “Parents want a safe, reliable car for their kids, but teens only care about what’s cool,” said Tara Weingarten, Vroomgirls.com editor-in-chief. “The 2012 Kia Rio checks both of those boxes.”

April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month and across the country, the Department of Transportation has one message for drivers: “One Text or Call could Wreck it All.”

There are many distractions drivers can face behind the wheel. Visual distractions occur when you take your eyes off the road, manual distractions take a driver’s hands off the wheel and onto something else, such as food or drink, and cognitive distractions occur when the driver stops thinking about driving and starts thinking about something else. While there are many ways to get distracted, cell phone use is by far the most alarming, as it requires visual, manual, and cognitive attention.

In 2010 alone, over 3,000 people were killed, and nearly half a million injured, in accidents caused by distracted driving.  Cell phone use was reported in 18% of these fatalities. Sending or receiving a text takes a driver’s eyes off the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, meaning they are driving roughly the length of a football field, blind, at 55 mph. Drivers using a hand-held device are also 4 times more likely to get into a crash serious enough to cause an injury due to the lack of reaction time.

Now that you know the facts, you’re probably wondering what you can do to get involved and help make our roadways safer. First, you can take the pledge to drive phone-free, encourage your family and friends to drive phone-free, and speak out if the driver of your car is distracted.  You can also share a “Faces of Distracted Driving” video on social media to help raise awareness, download a poster to hang up, and make a company or family pledge to commit to distracted-free driving.
